Your Hair Is Dry or Brittle? Don't worry! Things that you must know how to avoid it

What is dry hair?

Actually, the Dry hair develops when your hair doesn’t get or retain enough moisture. This reduces its sheen and can make it appear frizzy, lifeless, and dull. Dry hair can affect men and women of any age, but you’re more likely to develop it as you get older.

If your hair is healthy, natural oils in the outer layer helps protect the inner layers. They also reflect light, making your hair appear shiny. Sheen and lustre are two important signs of healthy hair.

When your hair is dry, the outer layer breaks down, causing it to appear dull and unhealthy.

Causes of dry hair

A variety of factors can lead to dry hair, including environmental conditions, hair care habits, and your physical health.

Some of the environmental conditions that can cause dry hair include:

  • living in a dry, hot climate
  • spending a lot of time in the sun or wind
  • frequently swimming in chlorinated or salt water

Hair care practices that often contribute to dry hair include:

  • washing your hair too often

Dry hair should not be washed daily. Essential, protective oils are washed out of the hair with each shampoo. Result: hair and scalp become dry, and hair lacks shine. Apply this rule of thumb: wash only as often as absolutely necessary, and as rarely as possible. Shampooing every two to three days is normally sufficient.

  • using harsh shampoos, conditioners, or styling products

Avoid shampoo and conditioners that don’t belong to your tone. Frequent brushing should be avoided – too many brush strokes can rough up the surface of the hair, leaving it looking distressed. Better: comb or brush as gently and infrequently as possible, Using high-quality tools made of natural materials.

  • dying or chemically treating your hair

Dry hair and damaged hairs are not the same things. Dry hair lacks natural oil. Damaged hair is strained by colouring or processing. Ensure you use care products designed for dry hair, to appropriately moisturize, smooth and restore shine.

  • using electric curling irons, straighteners, or curlers

Whether curling iron, flat iron or hairdryer, hair should never be exposed to high heat without protection. This is not only damaging but also drying. Your weapons to combat this: mousse and heat protection products. These coat the hair and prevent it from drying out.

Tip: when drying hair, keep the nozzle of your hairdryer around a foot away, and always brush from top to bottom – this helps to close and smooth the hair shaft.

  • regularly blow-drying your hair

The Extreme heat from hair dryers causes the water under the cuticles (the outermost layer of the hair) to form bubbles that stress and break the hair, the result will be Split ends, breakage, and brittle hair.

In some cases, dry hair is the result of an underlying health problem that affects your hair’s ability to retain moisture.
